Happy Monday!
We hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend and are ready for another busy week in Kindergarten. Even though it was a short week last week, we still got a lot of work done. On Friday the teachers got the opportunity to sharpen our skills through a technology filled day. This week, we will begin a new two week theme, Cornucopia. We will be concentrating on the four seasons and all of the changes that take place with people animals and plants. This unit really engages the children and they always have great insights to the gradual changes that occur. This fits in nicely with our fall weather here in Vermont. KinderRoo will be bringing the letters Ee, Ll and, Hh. Today KinderRoo tossed Easter Eggs ALL over the hallway! For homework this week we will be reading My Pumpkin. Thank you for continuing to sign the homework slip each night. Reading at home is definitely making a difference! This Wednesday, October 31st, we will have our annual Halloween Parade. Our parade begins at 2:00. Please send your child to school with their costume in tow. We will be getting dressed in our classroom shortly before the parade begins. When the parade finishes the students will go back to their classrooms to remove their costumes and collect their items. We are asking that family members remain outside just as you would for a normal dismissal. Our Halloween party will take place prior to the parade. A huge thank you to those who signed up to bring in goodies for this event! This Friday, November 2nd will be our annual Hike for Hunger event. The entire school will walk to Our Place and drop off all of the donated nonperishable goods. If you have not yet brought in a donation and would like to do so, you can send them in up through Friday! Just a Reminder…. Please don’t forget to move your clocks BACK one hour on Sunday, November 4th for DayLight Savings Time! Have a Great Week! Amy and Ashley

Dear Parents and Friends,
Good Afternoon!! We hope all of you enjoyed another great weather weekend! The cold weather is here to stay. Please keep in mind that it can be chilly in the classroom at times. For the comfort of your child please try to dress them in layers with long sleeves so they can add or remove the layers as needed. This week we will continue with our theme, Head to Toe. We will be concentrating on the Five Senses; hearing, seeing, smelling, tasting and touching. This is a very fun week for us. There will be a lot of hands on activities that we are sure you are going to hear about. We love to listen to all of the student’s observations and experiences about each of our senses. KinderRoo will be bringing the letters Rr, Bb and Ff. Today KinderRoo was tied in a Rope and there was RIBBON all over the hallway! Be sure to ask your child how Ridiculous that was! For homework this week we will be reading A Nature Walk. Please be sure to sign the homework slip each night for your child. Students are working very hard at pointing to each word as they read. We are so impressed with their efforts. What is more impressive is how excited and proud THEY are that they can read new words! In Math, we will continue to be counting AND comparing numbers. We will also begin to compare quantities of numbers. This will be a new concept for most, but with practice, one that will be mastered easily! Next Wednesday, October 31st, Central Elementary School will have our annual Halloween parade. Our parade begins at 2:00 on George Street. Students will bring their costumes to school. Please do NOT send your child to school in their costume. We will also be having a classroom Halloween party prior to the parade. Sign up sheets are in your child’s yellow folder. If you would like to sign up to bring anything please return the form by Wednesday, October 24th. A huge Thank you for all of you that have donated snacks to our classrooms. They are SO greatly appreciated! Friendly Reminder: No School this Friday, October 26th-Teacher In-Service. Have a Great Week! Amy and Ashley Dear Parents and Friends,
Happy Monday! We are going to finally have some Fall weather this week. Hope everyone enjoys the cool breeze along with the sweater and sweatshirt temperatures! This week we will begin a new theme, Head to Toe, which will focus this week on how marvelous our body is. We will concentrate on our heart, lungs, brain and the major systems of the human body. KinderRoo will be bringing the letters Cc, Kk and Uu. There was Corn on the Cob and crayons ALL over the hallway!! Be sure to ask your child how CRAZY that was! We will be continuing with our homework this week. We will be reading MY BRAIN. Please be sure to sign the homework slip each night for your child and return the books each morning. Students are working very hard at pointing to each word as they read. We are so impressed with their efforts! In Math, we will be counting AND comparing numbers this week. We will also be measuring various items, using the vocabulary, longer than, shorter than as well as comparing quantities. These will be difficult concepts at first, but with practice, both at home and school, they will become easier and easier. On Wednesday, October 17th we will be walking to the BF firehouse. We will get a tour of the building and learning about the importance of fire safety. The kids are looking forward to this event. Please make sure to send in sneakers to make the walk as comfortable as possible for all. We are almost out of extra snacks! If anyone would like to bring in snack bags or extra snack to share, it would be greatly appreciated. We can not thank you enough for all that you do to help make our days a bit smoother. Have a Great Week! Amy and Ashley Dear Parents and Friends,
Happy Middle of the week! We can’t believe that it is already Wednesday. A great big Thank you to all of you that were able attend conferences last week and yesterday. For those who were unable to make it, please contact us to schedule a more convenient time. It was great chatting with each of you. Your children are definitely working hard and learning a lot of new skills in kindergarten. Be proud of all the work that your child is doing! Since it is a short week, we will be spending the next three days reviewing our previously learned letters, m, a, s, d, t, i, n, p, g, and o. Please continue to practice the name and sound of each of these letters at home. For homework this week, please continue to read previous books. You could even choose a book to read to your child and have them pick out certain letters they know and have them tell you the sound that each one of them makes. Homework should be quick and fun. This is not a stressful time for you or your child. If you are struggling with the reading homework, please let us know so that we can fix this. In Math we will continue working on counting, one to one correspondence and identifying and writing numbers. These skills are still a bit tricky, but with continued practice, we are positive they will become easier and easier. The weather can be tricky this time of year. Please make sure your child has layers that they can remove or put on. Also, it is very important to remember to put closed-toe shoes on your child. Wearing flip-flops is a safety concern in the classroom and on the playground. -Amy and Ashley |
